An EAP provides confidential, professional support - most visibly mental-health counselling, but often also legal, financial and relationship guidance. Access is typically 24×7 via phone/app/chat, free to the employee, and confidential from the employer. A good EAP is measured on utilisation (are people actually using it?) and access speed, not just its existence in a benefits deck.
In India
Mental-health stigma keeps utilisation low unless the EAP is well-promoted, genuinely confidential and easy to reach. Awareness campaigns and manager training are what turn an EAP from a logo into a lifeline.
In practice
An employee facing burnout and a family issue books an anonymous late-night video counselling session through the EAP app. Their manager and HR never see who used it - only aggregate, de-identified usage themes that help HR spot org-wide stress.
